Ok, before reading further please read
this article by Lloyd Alter about Apple sueing New York city for designing a stylized green apple for it's new "GreenNYC" campaign. As a creative director I find this article fascinating, even haunting. How much power does the corporation have? We live in a culture driven by brand, and the force behind the brand is, the good ol' American Corporation. At least they're the ones purporting the power of brand. This corporate propaganda is all an illusion, even a lie, but for some reason we all love it! We live in a culture where consumerism drives the economy and brand is at the wheel of this cultish merry-go-round we call Brand Image. So, in regards to Apple's challenge, what can we say with hand clenched tight around our iPhone or iPod? Even now as I first read the article I thought, "what a joke", but then I realized I must be careful as I type on my brand new Intel Core Duo MacBook Pro, because the American Corporation has become the new Don, the legalized Mafia...that's my off the cuff musing for today. cheers and be sure to live out what you complain about. I know I don't.
